When Rochelle and Nathan first reached out to the Elope Stradbroke team, they had a clear vision: a wedding day that was authentic, relaxed, and deeply intimate. As one of the premier destinations for a Queensland island elopement, North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) provided the perfect “epic backdrop” for their heartfelt “I dos.”
For this couple, sincerity was the heartbeat of their ceremony. Together with their celebrant, they curated a service that reflected their history and their future dreams.
The couple’s vows were a highlight of the day, proving that small weddings allow for the most powerful personal moments. Nathan moved guests, saying, “Rochelle, your glow is nourishing and warm… with you, I feel infinite.” Rochelle echoed the sentiment with warmth and humor: “Nathan, you are creative, logical, have a great sense of humour – you’re a real catch.”
Planning an outdoor wedding on Stradbroke Island requires local expertise. On the morning of the wedding, consistent rain threatened the ceremony. By intently monitoring the BOM radar, our team made the executive call to delay the setup until 2:00 PM.
As if on cue, the clouds cleared right on schedule. Steve from Elope Stradbroke executed a “last-minute dash” to set up:
The Setting: A classic wooden arbour draped in white and neutral peach.
The Florals: Vibrant, colorful blooms that popped against the blue ocean.
The View: The rolling Pacific Ocean served as a natural, breathtaking altar.
Rochelle and Nathan chose a modern approach, walking into their ceremony space hand-in-hand to “A Thousand Years” by The Piano Guys. Their ceremony was a beautiful blend of tradition and personal innovation:
Welcome to Country: Their friend Renee, a Nunukul woman, opened the ceremony by welcoming guests to the land.
A Family Affair: Rochelle’s brother performed a reading of “To Love is not to Possess” with his baby daughter on his hip.
The Ring Warming: Guests held the wedding rings, offering a silent wish or prayer before the exchange.
Heritage: To honor Nathan’s Italian roots, “That’s Amore” played during the signing, while the couple’s grandmothers acted as official witnesses.
After a shower of biodegradable confetti, the couple explored the headlands for photos with Romana Saeheng. In a true Minjerribah moment, they were even joined by a local kangaroo as dusk settled over the ocean—the ultimate “Straddie” wedding photo op!
Whether you are dreaming of a micro-wedding or a simple, barefoot elopement, we handle the coordination so you can focus on the moments that matter.
